We inspect every single coral that we ship out carefully and will not send out any piece that doesn’t not seem up to the travel. At the Desert Coral Ranch we also perform regular dips with our inventory and practice extensive quarantine and pest prevention measures. However it it always advised to dip your incoming livestock and ideally quarantine it, to make sure you’re not importing any pests or unwanted hitchhikers into your system.
Once you receive your Desert Coral Ranch shipment, bring the package inside as soon as possible and float the (closed) individual bags of corals in your tank or sump for about half an hour. Take pictures now if you suspect a DOA.
After the temperature acclimation open the individual bags and drip acclimate (some people chose to skip this step) and proceed with the dipping procedure. We use Melafix for our coral dip. 10ml of Melafix (5% strength, “pond” version) per gallon of (tank) water. Acros for 6 minutes and LPS up to 10 minutes. We use a small powerhead that creates some flow in the dipping bin. For some softies like Zoas we also perform a Hydrogen Peroxide dip, 50/50 solution with tank water and 3% strength Hydrogen Peroxide for about 6 minutes.
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A COMPLETE INSTRUCTION FOR DIPPING
PLEASE DO MORE RESEARCH YOURSELF
Generally it is advised to place newly arrived corals in lower light and flow conditions if they seem stressed from transport. Watch the coral over time to find a suitable placement in your aquarium.
